Once upon a time, a little grey kitten found herself trapped under a trailer in a mobile home park. She was in a terrible state – her jaw was broken, she had a bad case of upper respiratory infection (URI), and to top it off, she was covered in fleas and almost skin and bones. Fortunately for her, some kind volunteers from C5, a TNR rescue group, managed to rescue the poor little thing, along with her brother. They were then taken in by Hearts Alive Village, who gave them all the medical attention they needed. Nikki Martinez and her husband went above and beyond by crawling under the trailer to save the kittens and even opened their home to them, giving them names – Chamomile (or Cami) and Earl Grey.
Nikki shared with Love Meow how Cami’s arrival was accompanied by the challenge of treating her and her brother’s ringworm, which had covered her entire body. The vet had expressed concern for Cami’s survival, saying that it would be a miracle if she made it through the next few days. However, Cami’s determination to survive was evident from the beginning. Despite weighing only 0.68 pounds and being half the size of her brother, she put in all her effort to satisfy her hunger.
Despite her jaw being injured, Cami managed to consume wet food independently. After her URI was treated, Cami’s stunning eyes became noticeable and her hunger increased tremendously. She ate every last bite of her meals and never skipped a feeding.
Within a mere six days, the adorable kitten underwent an incredible transformation. Her eyes sparkled with renewed vigor and she radiated energy like never before. As time progressed, her jaw healed remarkably, leaving her completely free of any discomfort.
With careful attention and ample food, both feline darlings triumphed over their health woes and achieved excellent progress.
Earl had a talent for making friends easily and he became fond of receiving hugs. Meanwhile, Cami was a little more introverted but eventually considered reaching out for some affection. According to Nikki, Earl acted like a protective layer for Cami, allowing her to feel bolder and have fun. With the aid of Earl’s encouragement, Cami gradually broke out of her shell and began to enjoy being petted and cuddled.
During this period, she always stuck close to her brother, accompanying him on all his adventures. “She’s like his shadow – wherever he goes, she follows closely behind. Earl has transformed into a cuddly monster, a huge teddy bear, and his presence has helped Cami flourish.”
Cami used to avoid hugs from her loved ones but with the help of Nikki and her husband’s cuddles and Earl’s encouragement, she has overcome her fear. Cami now loves getting back scratches just like her brother and follows him around whenever he playfully zooms from one room to another.
Presently, the dynamic duo has made a complete recuperation and are flourishing as contented and robust house cats. Cami’s stature, vigor, and assurance have remarkably augmented. Following a week-long wait, Cami and Earl finally received the favorable information they’ve been yearning for.
They have discovered their permanent abode and are set to be formally adopted by the end of this month. Cami remains inseparable from her sibling, following him around like a loyal shadow every single day. It’s heartwarming to know that the two will always be together.
